Merkur Landing Zone West
Vis-a-vis to the valley station, there’s some stairs that lead to a valley path. Follow it for about 2 minutes to reach the LZ. Due to its small size, adherence to the landing pattern is absolutely mandatory.
- Position: Above the path’s semicircle to the northwest. Don’t disrupt pilots already in the downwind leg when getting there.
- Downwind leg: Don’t fly low over the garden plots. Try to stay south of their border.
- The base leg’s exact position may vary with your remaining altitude. You may do it near the apple trees, or further east.
- Do mind these apple trees, they are a nuisance.
- The LZ is sloped slightly downwards from east to west. The final approach may be longer than expected.
- The LZ can trigger thermals, you may need to improvise if this happens.
- In case of accidents, there will be big white cross on the LZ. Airspace is to be cleared immediately for the arriving rescue helicopter, don’t take off.
- For NE approach, see Northeast Landing.
A briefing is mandatory.
